How many 73-87s have you owned?
« on: March 23, 2008, 11:21:38 pm »
How many 73-87 trucks have you/your family owned over the years?
I own-
'73 GMC custom 1500 2WD 307 3 on the tree. I'm the second owner. (bought last summer)
'81 GMC Sierra Classic 1500 2WD 5.7 diesel ( :-\) TH350. Was bought by a farm implement dealer. they had a Goodwrench 350D installed in '84. They closed in '85 and a farmer bought it. I bought it from him a few months ago, not running.
'84 chevy Custom deluxe 20 383 stroker Th400. Don't know any history on it. (had it for about a year)
'82 Chevy K10 6.2 diesel Th350. Bought a few weeks ago, new starter and glow plugs, been driving it ever since (I love diesels)
*coming soon* mid 70's Chevy K20 292 straight six 4 speed stick.

My dad has-
'77 Chevy K10 350 (used to be a 400)
'83 K25 for parts
'85 K10 400 SB bored out to 409 Th700R4
'87 K20 Suburban 350 Th400

I will put pics on when I get time.
'73 GMC C15 307 3 on the tree
'81 GMC C15 5.7 Diesel TH350 (doesn't run yet)
'82 K10 6.2 Diesel TH350 (daily driver)
'84 K20HD 383 TH400

This is going to be a good one! I'm sure some of the guys honestly can't remember all of them. I have owned 7 & still have 4 at this time. My '78 4wd longbed w/455 Olds, the wife's '85 2wd shortbed w/455 Olds, a '78 4wd shortbed "beater", a '77 4wd shortbed parts truck & many, many spare parts. I see you say "I like diesels", but do I need to tell you what I would do to your non-running '81?  Lorne

I dont own the 1 i am working on which is my mothers which is a 1980 but i have owned 1 1983 k5 blazer. It had a 1981 z28 350 in it and it ran like a raped ape.It had a 700r4 which blew up n i had a th350 built for it.That was something i shouldve kept but at 20 at the time  it was costing 60.00 a week in fuel and around 320.00 a month just for liability for insurance which it was killing me considering i was flat rate at a body shop and never got ahead. So i sold it and bought a brand new 1995 chevy beretta.

thanks

we had 76 c-10 straight 6 3 on the tre, converted to the floor then a built 359 and posi rear unknown gear, would scream. rust killed it...

The last pic was rust in the firewall, along with every other piece rusted badly.

The other truck we had is an 86 k10 with a 4 inch lift and 33's, was 305, rebuilt a 350 and dropped in, had 700r4 that was going bad and 208 t-case, along with alot of add-ons for looks.

This is our latest and we still have it, 84 c10 305 and th350 with 255/60's and chrome 8 spoke/wagon wheels. Mostly stock for now.

^ Just a suggestion, but you should ditch that tiny air cleaner for at least a 14x3. Even Edelbrock recommends against anything smaller than a 10x2 in their owner manual for Performer carbs. The bigger the element, the less restrictive it is. I like that truck though. Nice and clean.

I've only had 2:

The first vehicle I ever owned which was an 81 GMC Jimmy 2wd Sierra Classic. Stock 305 2bbl, TH350C, posi 3.08 rear, 15x8 rallies, red with white upper cab and top. Later painted to metallic black with GM Slate grey top, by Maaco. It turned out suprisingly well for a 'cheap' ($1200 in 1992) paint job. It was sharp for a high school driver and with the aluminum running boards it had (I grew up in Saskatchewan; EVERY vehicle had running boards due to gravel roads) and the 2wd, everybody figured it was lowered. Had a big stereo in it and I loved taking the top off in the summer. Problem was getting friends to help get the top back on at the end of the night! Had air (non-working), tilt and cruise and red interior with stock black/white houndstooth seats with red vinyl trim. It was a good vehicle and was partly the inspiration for my current toy.

Current toy is an 81 GMC short-wide 2wd that started life as a 6 cyl. auto. In 1999/2000 it was restored by it's owner at the time into an 85 Silverado 350/TH350 mild hot rod. Sold to a young kid whom I bought it off of, and he stored it outside so it has a few small rust issues in the usual spots of which I'm trying to take care off. Otherwise it's pretty nice for the $6k I paid for it in April of 2004. It's mostly the same as I bought it, except I've cleaned it thoroughly, reversed the tires, added a tach, changed batteries, valve covers and air cleaner and put some louder mufflers and nice exhaust tips on it, and replaced the tranny cooler. Oh, and put charcoal leather buckets in it as I work on the stereo. It's coming along. Heads and cam are coming hopefully soon to really wake it up.

86 K30 dump, 454, SM456, 4:56s, 9' Fisher plow.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

i cant even count...just last week we had a total of four...78 c10, 80 k10, 81 k10, 77 camper special.

over the years i remember having 3: my 78, an 87 c10, 86 blazer, and a 74 c10,

my brother(plowking_90) first had a 79 blazer, a 77 c10, the 81, 80, and 77 listed above, an 84 k20, i think a 79 c10, maybe more i'm sure he'll post.

My dad had more of these trucks than i could possibly remember, he probably even couldnt.  These are the ones i can remember off hand. Mid 70's blazer when i was around 4, 85 c10, 86 c10, 85 k30, 87 suburban, and the truck that got me hooked on these was his 74 c10.  I'll see how many more he can remember later.
