Kick panel spot welded?

84 gmc cab, I'm going to be replacing the kick panels soon. Is it correct that it is spot welded in place? What about up top under the dash area? How about on bottom inside the cab where it meets the floor? Thanks for any insight. Jeremy

Every joint in the cab is " spot welded " Not sure what you are asking?
When the cabs are built on the line the inner A pillar is welded via spot welds to the floor, floor / rocker support, outer A pillar / outer rocker. Not particularly in that order, but those are all attached to the ' kick panel ". The dash is welded in after the cab is pretty much complete. In other words to replace the whole thing you will be disassembling pretty much the whole cab. That area is almost a flat surface, they have a slight double bend when they go down below the floor surface where they have the hole for the bottom rear fender mount, and turn into the inner rocker. They are easy to make and section in.

Dumbbucket, Are you trying to repair rust at the rocker/floor area or speaker holes? If so, sectioning in a piece or two is the way to go. If the cab is in need of both complete kick panels replaced, you probably should look for a new cab in my opinion. Lorne

Its actually supposed to be dumpbucket lol. Look at my avatar I drive a dumpbucket for a living but I screwed up and typo'd lol.
I was pretty well referring to the pre made patch panel on where the spot welds would be. Heres the story and specs on this truck. I got this truck when I was 13 years old. It had a blown 350 in it and my grandpa owned it. He told me if I could get it running I could have it. So I worked for a farmer that summer spraying weeds in a bean field to buy a junkyard engine. By the end of summer it was running and the truck was mine. This truck started it all for me with these trucks, I have had maybe 15 or so of them since but have always hung onto this one.
It started out as a 84 gmc sierra 2500 2wd. I have converted it to a shortbed 1/2 ton 2wd via a new shortbed frame. My plans are to put a 73 gmc front clip on it, which I already have, shortbed fleetside box, then either put a big block chevy in it or maybe a big block olds or pontiac. This truck will not be a daily driver it will be a weekend only truck and for shows. The paint scheme I have chosen is a dark blue with white center and white top.
The only thing left of the original truck is the cab lol. If I replace the cab too then none of the sentimental value is there anymore. I have had this truck for 15 years and went all the way through high school with it, got married while owning it, had a child while owning it, etc. well on to the pics......
