shaved door kits

i was told to get this kit cause the poppers won't rust... someoen told me the autoloc kits are junk and the poppers rust out... so any opinions before i dump the money. i have an account with hoffman to get the autoloc kits at dealer but i'd rather get the best i can for my money i don't wanna do something twice...

I've been having a nose too. There are several companies where u can build your own. I've been lookin at customclassics for a alarm, start disable and emergency pull (911 cable) in case battery goes flat. Upgrade the solenoids 'cos the truck doors are pretty heavy!

I've just ordered a kit from "mypushcart" on ebay. he's a power seller, knows his stuff and cheaper than customclassics! I think I opted for the 45lb rather than the 30lb just in case!! Bearing in mind the shipping cost is $45 the actual kit with alarm and 911 cable was $160 appx. That was by far the cheapest.

30lb minimum.  You actually can make a kit on your own with door lock solenoids.

I was gonna get a cheap central locking system and convert it to pull the catch rod rather than the lock rod but the kit comes with all the wires, relays etc and an alarm. better safe than sorry

anyone got a how to on the make your own kit? i want some decent solenoids that won't rust out..

Easy.  Go to a salvage yard remove the door lock solenoids and wiring from a donor vehicle, they say the earlier 80 down solenoids are stronger, but they are larger.  Mount the solenoid in the door so it will pull up on the exterior handle (you can run a pulley so you can mount it below if you have to) and use some crimp wire to connect it to the latch, run the wiring and connect it to a push button.

There really isn't anything "special" about the kits other than what Bitzer! pointed out, everything is there.

Sooooo many fingers in toooo many pies at the mo only managed to remove handles, weld holes and fill (see pics above) hope to make a start on poppers this weekend

so far so good. They sound noisy but no foam round em yet or door card either. Cant upload video but if you PM me yr email addy i'll send it ya
