New Technology Soon!

Has anybody heard that a new technology is soon going to be  coming out called BPL, or Broadband over Power Lines? It won't be long before you will be able to actually access the internet by plugging your computer into any wall socket in your house, or any where else. The utility companies are  developing the  technology now, and all they have to do is add a carrier signal into the already existing power lines that come into our homes, and voila- we have internet at any electrical outlet in our house! It will be blazing fast and will replace cable and dsl connections because of its usability- and, you can go anywhere and take your notebook with you and access the internet by simply plugging into a wall outlet!
And, if they can deliver the internet, they can do the same with the phone signals. Goodbye ATT/ Bell South! if you guys want to find a great investment, I think this might be one that should interest you! In 5 years they will introduce it in China too, and think about the money to be made when that happens! It's coming guys.Probably this year. Get ready for some changes...

Wow, sounds like it would be fast. Problem is good by AT&T hello getting bent over even further from the power company. Now if your power is out and you have a genorator you can still get on, the way the power goes out around here it might not be very reliable.

not really new, been around for years, just moreso in the commercial applications then residential.

this article is 3 years old, and says they are already testing it. If you want fast internet for low cost, look and see if fois is available in your area. Verison does it and has a check on thier website.

We use this at work already for doing network cable internet installs in big houses. We use power line adapters for situations where wireless would be too weak and running cat5 would be impossible. The powerline adapter plugs into the router then plugs into an electrical outlet.Then on the other side of the house we plug in another powerline adapter and then it plugs into the computer. We are generating our own signal and using the power lines in the house to deliever that signal.

That's what I need at my house! I use a router from my desktop upstairs to my notebook downstairs, and it goes out in the weeds pretty often, lookin for a signal. sometimes I'm in the middle of this big idea or some nonsense for my pals on 73-87, and all of a sudden I have no connection!
...Bummer.

I work for what used to be cox here in texas and there are 2 things people hate here. The phone company and the electric company. In our system we have over 50% penetration on just internet alone the fastest speed we offer is 9m down and 1000 up. I guess it depends on your preferrence but when it comes to those two utilities they lie to us all the time around here. Verizon just for phone service would charge you easily $40 a month and the electric company they always charging us for retarded things like when they screw up when they accidently cut your electric off or whatever here.
