My floor/ how bad you think it is?
« on: April 10, 2008, 04:10:23 pm »
Here is a coupe shot of my floor. I pulled out the jute and viynal(sp) flooring and this is what i found. Put a corosion wheel on and went over some of the floor and came up with bright shiny sheetmetal under the spots. There is some pitting near the hump and toward the front of the floor board. The area between the door seal and floor is still great. I have no holes, kick panels, cab corners, rockers, and floor support look great. What is my next step with this floor section?

Passenger Floor

Passenger floor 2

whole shot of floor( what is the silver thing under the dash on passenger side) can't get passenger kick panel off due to that??????????

Due, Get a good dust mask & a cover for the dash & windshield, ect. & go to town with a wire cup brush or similar item on a grinder. There are several chemicals that will dissolve rust, muriatic acid for one, can be used for the pitted areas. Then use one of the rust stopping/prohibiting paints (put a couple coats on) & reinstall in sound deadener/mat/carpet, ect.  Lorne

Eastwood carries rust products, too. If you can stop it now, you'll be in good shape. The silve thing is a vacuum dash pot controling fresh air to the air handler. It should come off with the RT side kick panel once you all the screws out. There are some up and over the opening.

Dust mask not a problem! Got a industrial one used for refinery blasting and ect.... I will get everything covered and taped soon as i get her sitting level(due to moving her here and there for measurements ect....) and will get a few more wire brush cups....

Looks like the metal is nice and solid looking, so you have half of the battle done already. I have used the rust inhibitor from Eastwood as was suggested by someone else, the stuff works very well and isn't super expensive either. Even though you won't ever be looking at the floor again once it's covered, it's always a good to do a good job of cleaning, de-rusting, and painting it for protection from what you can't see.

But you do have more than most when it comes to metal in a 25 year old truck. Have fun and good luck.
