forward for the modem
« Reply #15 on: August 11, 2006, 01:13:00 pm »
Hey Topless I wasnt paying attention the other day but he posted the forward and its to low -11 is past the border. The minimum is -10 from the motorola specs. I ususally try for between -5 and +5. If the return is sitting at 55 or higher it will have problems if he raises the forward is should be ok.

Yes you can. Between whatever splitters you have its downgrading the signal. The more splitters you have the more you signal downgrades. I would isolate the line for the modem like Topless said. I dunno how many lines or splitters you have but you just need to rearrange them or the only other thing it could be is low signal off their equipment. You have two parts of the signal that modem needs the first would be the forward (this is signal strength... which is the -11) and the other is what we call the return (54 from the previous reply). How many lines do you have and what kinda of splitters do you have( 2-ways, 3-ways, or 4-ways)?

Chevyguy, thanks. See my posts above for the info I supplied about splitters and signals and feeds. There are No splitters on the internet cable. Internet and tv cables are two separate cables coming to the house.

I don't have a digital camera. didn't mean for this thread to go on so long. Replaced my modem and same thing remains. Charter Cable tech (4th one I've contacted this week) says he is able to provision my modem so the lines are ok. He finally admitted that there have been problems like mine occurring in our area, so I'm waiting for Charter to fix whatever problem they're having at the gateway. Well, if nothing else gets accomplished, at least I'm learning some new computer terms. :lol

That sounds like what they would say over the phone, they tell our customers the same thing.... its a signal issue that just needs addressing.
