off to the trails
« on: April 24, 2008, 06:07:12 pm »
Ok, time to play some.  I am off to West Va to play on the ATV trails for four days.  I'll be with about a dozen or so other law enforcement officers and their families to let off some steam.

Ever hear of the Hatfield-Mccoy Trail system....the West Va people really know how to cater to the recreation crowds.  It is several hundred MILES of ATV trails. www.trailsheaven.com

The campground we are staying is supposed to have wireless internet feed, so I may be updating soon.  http://www.atvresort.com/

Now it is off to bed---leaving at 5am. I have to pick up a buddy and his 400 cc honda to put on my trailer behind my Polaris 400cc.

We got a great ride in today, Sunday.  The last day.  Going home tomorrow.  It started raining here towards the afternoon, but, we didn't care.  I have two pages of pics now.  The second page is linked from the first....

Awesome, but I didn't see you mowing over any trees! ::)

Cool! My dad and I go up to Mercer, Wisconsin every summer. I drive an insanely souped up Yamaha Blaster and he drives a Polaris Sportsman 800. Those look like really cool trails. It's perfect. Wide open huge spaces with bridges and then tight corners with mud and lots of trees. I gotta convince my dad to go out there sometime. ;D

Oh, I tried to plow over a few trees that were in the way  :D  When you're doing 40-50mph on a trail and have to make evasive action to avoid a rock, those trees suddenly pop up quickly where they shouldn't be.

Boy, I recommend doing that to anyone interested in ATV's...that was SO MUCH fun!  A good way to let off some steam w/ your friends.  The best part was that there were no wives around to nag about not driving the ATV's so aggressively. We had a BahLast. The beer-drinking around the campfires after the rides were great as well. Can't wait to do it again.

Now I come back to Va, and hear that tornadoes were all around south and east of Richmond. I am glad they didn't take away my ATV!

Yeah, Franklin always gets flooded.  Suffolk got hit really badly...200 injured w/ a F3 tornado around 430pm yesterday.  That is about an hour away from me.  An F1 hit Brunswick where my cousins/uncle/aunt live and demolished two houses. Another F1 hit near a mall I used to work at years ago, piled suv's on top of one another and tore roofs off of business. A tree branch, still intact, stuck into the side of a concrete stucco side of a business about half way in.  That was amazing.

Anyway, going to WV again in October to hit the trails again (or sooner).  We plan the same trip w/ the same people twice a year. However, my buddy and I just may go again prior to that. It is about a 5 1/2 hour drive from Richmond, near Beckley WV. I can't express how much fun that is.

You guys like the last pic on the second page of pictures?  ;D

They just confirmed that there were six tornadoes in VA yesterday.  We're not supposed to have tornadoes in Virginia ???

Even w/ the F3 leaving a path 25 miles long in Suffolk, no one was killed.  That is amazing. The local news her has some amazing footage of the big twister.  I have always had the desire to see a twister, I think it would be so cool.  I have seen a funnel cloud come down to the treetops when i was a teenager, but it never developed completely.  Now, I don't really want to see one.
Did you see guys see the Chief of Police interviewed on the Nightly News?  The guy's name is Chief Outlaw!

Chief Outlaw. Sounds like he picked the wrong profession! lol. My minister's name when I was growing up was Paul Miracle -- Father Miracle, now, that fit.

I like a bit of irony in the morning with my coffee, thanks Sgt! :)
