Drip rail removal -- how to?

I've searched hi and low for a step-by-step to remove my drip rails....with intentions of putting them back on. Anyone have a resource link or can give advice? thanks for any help.

If you are talking about the metal around the side windows, it is very simple to do. I did this last weekend. You will need a 7mm wrench and there are 6 bolts along the rail.

Not to be a smart but, remove the bolts, remove the drip rail, clean up the drip rails, and reinstall using same bolts - simple

I always tap the holes back flat before reinstall. It helps keep them from stripping out.

On both my 76 silverado and 84 sierra they are riveted on?

Not to be a smart but, remove the bolts, remove the drip rail, clean up the drip rails, and reinstall using same bolts - simple

not to be smart   but they are screws...not bolts.
The screws seem to be too long, to both fit in the hole and also miss the stainless molding.

when i unscrew the screws....they hit the inside of the molding before they allow to be angled out. this might require a pic.

thanks! indeed....  its one of those things that's overly fussy. easy to scratch the paint, etc. The 7mm open wrench is the key...I did not have one on hand, but picked one up. thanks for the help

Vince, One thing that will help is to pull out on the drip molding once you have the screw/bolts about half way out, this helps with wrench room & once the molding is loose the screws wiggle out easier. Lorne

you should be able to remove the chrome trim from the drip rail;this will expose notches in the mount rail so you can use a socket or a screwdriver to remove the screws ....

Alex, Have you had good results putting the chrome back on? Times I've tried to remove it on other vehicles, it kinda rolled, twisted & often times made little ripples, sometimes I could reuse them, but sometimes not. Maybe you have come up with a better way? It is defiantly not needed in this application, just loosen the screws a little starting on one end, pulling out slightly on the molding once it's half way out. I tape the end I start at so it's not flopping around when you get to the last one or two. Lorne

That doesnt sound right, my 85 cab they were sheet metal screwed on and my 1980 cab they were screwed on as well, sounds like someone riveted them on .

anything is possible.I use to work at a chevrolet dealership many years ago , working on the GM paint job dilemas and we had a s10 blazer come in and we tried to take the roof rack off cause the collar that the bolt threated in kept turning.well i shortly left after the shop closed down and moved and they went to another body shop owned by the same dealership till their new shop was built and someone tried using them plastic push in clips for licence plates to hold it into place.You never know what some people do to these vehicles to keep them on the road.I could go on and on bout some hack and whack jobs but it be throwing the subject off.

on my 75 they were actaulyl really cheap plastic and rivited on but on my 79 they are screwed on....
