350 filter vs the 200 trans filter

My truck is a 77 gmc high sierra 25. It has a 350 trans. i serviced it toda and it had a 200 trans filter in it and man was the trans pan full of wet like metal sand. THE HORROR  :'( :o ??? why was ther a 200 trans filter in there is that what was the problem??
