Is this thread still going? Who's Lt.  Del anyway, and these other members? Are they still around? Oh well, i grew up in the 70's and mostly 80's, yup..big hair and spandex was cool, i guess. I listened to all the typical rock and/or roll. I was even on the pot, lol. So now get ready to roll your eyes and say "oh, he's one of those".  I now listen to classical, mostly Bach, and gospel hymns,  not the contemporary stuff, the real hymns, from the old days like during the civil war era and early 1900's.

Quite the thread revival.

I listen to two rock and country

rock/metal/death metal/classic metal whatever you wanna call it i probably listen to some of it. Anything from Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, August Burns Red... to Zeppelin and ZZ Top. I love a wide range of bands

Classic country/modern country/some of the more folkish country, bluegrass and pretty much anything in between. Hank III, Garth, Steeldrivers, Jason Aldean, Johnny Horton, Cash, Joe Diffy, CDB. Ill listen to just about anything along those lines. but I hate alot of modern country that doesnt sound like country and doesnt even sound like a band. just sounds like pop music with a dash of banjo with a drum machine.

Back in "my day" if it wasnt heavy metal it was the mellow 60's stuff.  Like bread, cream, apple, (lot of bands named after food), ccr, canned heat, etc...

Country all day every day. Nothing against the new stuff, but basically anything 2005 or so and older. After that it just gets to not country sounding. I really love the 70s, 80s and 90s country. George, Garth, B & D, AJ. The exception to this is tho, there are a small handful of new artists currently, not many but a few, who's music sounds like the old stuff and if you didn't know the front from the back of screwdriver you wouldn't be able to tell the difference and a good example is this Chris Stapleton, sounds old, makes great music and looks like he just crawled out of cabin in 1974, I really like his stuff, very old school. But I also like Pride, Cash, Willy, Alabama, Black, there's just to many to list between 1970 and 1990. It's the only music that has any real soul or genuineness to it. Not bad for a 23 yr old huh?!

I listen to 60% rap, 30% metal/hard rock, 10% classic rock. Cant stand country. Utterly HATE the sound of male country singers from about 1980 on. Can literally feel my blood boil when I have to listen to it. Something about a certain twangy tone in their voice makes me want to break whatever is making that godawful racket.

I usually listen to Eminem, Tech N9ne, 50 Cent, Akon, a little Yelawolf, Lil Jon, Godsmack, Disturbed, Nonpoint, Amon Amarth, Volbeat, Soil, Drowning Pool, Stone Sour, Flyleaf, pre- Black Album Metallica, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Clapton, ZZ Top, Rush, Joan Jett, etc...Pretty much, I can be pretty satisfied with any classic rock station, Any metal/hard rock station, or my own collection of Rap.

Unfortunately I live in the heart of country territory, and the majority of the fans around here think if you dont like the sound of country, they just need to play it louder and try to tell you why its so great. Then get mad when you play something they don't like the sound of.

Cool thread revival.

There isn't much I don't listen to regularly. If there is one thing I hate it is repetition. Give me a variety.

I have the whole gamut on my phone. Big band/swing, 80s rock, country, classical, I have one playlist that is strictly patriotic selections.

I grew up on the 80s. Excellent music. Pop/rock, country, early rap. It was all top notch. Still listen to most of it today. However, to my reward, I have expanded my tastes to include more decades. 70s. Most of that was easy listening love ballads like Little River Band. Southern rock like Skynyrd. Great stuff. The 60s. You have the usual rock sound, but then there was the surfers, Motown, and don't forget the political counter culture protest music. Love it or hate it, the 60s would not be complete without the protest music. Yep, I listen to it all. The 50s. Ah, well, way too much to list. The 40s is my default. The sound, the swing, the Patriotism. The 40s had a message in the STARKEST of contrast to the 60s protest music. Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, the list could go on and on.

Give this song a listen:
https://youtu.be/fhyhP_5VfKM

And the gold standard:
https://youtu.be/_CI-0E_jses

Classical, Mozart, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Strauss. Pure artistry.

Country. Pretty much all of it, except this Nashville hip hop that seems to dominate the current airtime. And Tim McGraw. Can't stand him or his girlfriend Kenny Chesney.

My wife listens to the modern gospel, which when mixed with a 4/4ths time scale is pretty stimulating. Way back in the day my family was good personal acquaintances with the Blackwood Brothers quartet. I'll still indulge in some of their music from time to time.

There is so much more I could list but let me add by saying everyone should explore new horizons. To make my case I'll bet anyone on this forum that they like opera and don't even know it. Take a listen to the following piece and then tell me with a straight face that this isn't exquisite music: http://youtu.be/9BZ16rfWUaM

As far as what I won't listen to, death metal. Can only do very little of that and like lemon juice on a cold sore, a dab'll do ya. Same with hip hop. Its like a cold toilet seat, I'll do it but I have to ease into it. If that is what others like that's cool with me, just not my type.

And finally, I knew I raised my kids right when I asked them this question: I noticed you guys listen to a lot of 80s music. What do you guys think of .38 Special? My 20 year old replied with "Duh dad it's Skynyrd". It was at that point when I knew I was the perfect parent.

Wow engineer! You could write a small book on music variety. I agree with a lot of what you stated. Those two black and white clips you posted were awesome! The last one tricked me, it got a little heavy for me part way through. I dont listen to anything with drums or a beat to it, dont smirk, thats just my style. I love music from that 30's and 40's era, relaxes the body and mind. There were teenagers and 20 and 30 year olds back then too, rock hadnt been invented yet, not till chuck berry. Anyway thats the music they had. I agree with werewolf too, somethin awful about todays country with that fake twang all the men are trying to do. And they all wear cowboy boots, faded jeans and a black stupid cowboy hat. And they drink heavy and use a lot of profanity and vulgarity, especially kenny chesney. And whos that sleezy chick that does mon night football, she needs to put some clothes on! She sings Jesus songs and dresses like a harlot. Oh well, no offense to the country lovers.
