header ground clearance
« on: May 07, 2008, 09:01:25 pm »
so ive got the front clip off the truck right now and while i do im doing some other stuff to it. finally put on a set of headers ive had for years. my brother originally bought em for an 84 cutlass he was gonna drop a 400 into, didnt use em and gave em to me. the guy he bought em off of at a swap meet thinks theyre for a 70s g-body. one tube on the passenger side is 1/8th inch from the frame rail but my main concern is how low they hang, about 5-6 inches below the rocker, and they angle toward the ground maybe 15-20* down.
how do other headers or the ones designed for these trucks fit?

stock really sucks

idk what brand mine are because they came with the truck, but mine don't hang that low at all. you may want to get some other ones.

I just copied this from 85short496's cardomain page:
"The headers are Hedman's for 67-69 camaros/ 70-72 chevelles. They fit awesome( didn't even have to pull the spark plugs to install) and they don't hang low like full-lengths if you plan on slammin' your truck. "

Sounds pretty good to me. I have headers on my truck, although I have no idea what make/model they are. They fit fine but get pretty close to the passenger frame rail.

My full-length hedmans(for the truck) weren't that bad.  My truck was lowered 2" in front and I didn't have any ground clearance issues.

how far under the frame did they hang? my trucks already lowered 3" and is gonna be at least another 3" if not bagged. my stock crossover pipe scraped on steep driveways.

I'm not 100% sure how low they were, but I thought they left a good few inches of ground clearance. I think 6" of drop is gonna be too much for them though.

Full lengths on th e73-87's that are dropped more than 4/6 generally will scrape the ground on mild bumps.
