Had to have something with better fuel mileage.
« on: June 11, 2008, 04:12:39 am »
Well, I decided that something a little more fuel efficient was in order. So some how I got a car for my wife for fathers day, and still don't know how that happened. I am not a car guy, but with this one I can make an exception. WHat do you guys think?

Nice looking, whats it get for milage? Not a huge 4th gen fan  of TA's, or Camaro's, ( even though I have one, Camaro ) but I do love the looks of those with that hood.

We had a 97 T/A that got around 16 in town ( if I behaved) and 26 mpg on the highway (same conditions). A friend had a WS6 like this one and the mileage was similiar,15-17 in town,24-27 on the highway. And they do run. Had our 97 at 155mph, had more throttle, not enough nerve. tires were not rated high enough. I like these Birds, but prefer the "Bandit" cars, or pre 73's

Nice ride. Those LS1's have some stink to them. I test drove a then-new 99 WS6 T/A 6speed. My girlfriend (now wife) was in the passenger seat with the sales guy in the back. No way we could have afforded it but the sales guy thought maybe we could so off we went! I straightened out after a left turn from an intersection and nailed it in 1st. The car SHOT forward. It was awesome! It squatted down, nose lifted and lunged for the redline. Pounded the 1-2 shift and got a little kickout from the rear end. My wife grabbed the door and screamed. Best test drive ever  ;D  Even the sales guy was having fun. Very responsive those cars.

Good Looking car, appears to be a WS6? I had an 02 Firehawk with a 6 speed and the 1LE suspension, what a blast to drive, enjoy it.

Be Honest Chop, you just bought it "For Your Wife" till you get a chance to Gank the motor and trans when she wants to get rid of it ;D  Ver Nice Buy, but that thing will get worse mileage!! Especially once you figure out how to mod it, and your right foot decides it prefers to be Comfortably Buried 8)

Ok guys. Got the car in today, and am not very happy. The problem is the oil pressure. I asked the salesman (yes like a fool I bought it with only seeing pictures and verbal answers) what kind of oil pressure it had. He stated, it had lots of oil pressure. I believed him. It got here today, and was supposed to have been trucked here from El Paso, and I think it was driven. It was at least 3 quarts low on oil, the dipstick is the wrong one, and has about 25 psi oil pressure at speed, w/ what looks like 15 psi at idle. It doesn't rattle, but does have a pretty obnoxious exhaust. I like it, but it belongs to the wife and I don't know what she's gonna want to do with it.I know the car was raced( I removed the nitrous jets out of the intake boot myself). Hotrod24,can you tell me what oil psi your mom has in her car. I will get the proper dipstick tomorrow, and switch it over to Amsoil, and see what happens to the pressure, i just need to see if I am going to have to replace this engine or not. Other than that, the car is in pretty good shape. Any input would help. Thanks guys

Being 3 qts low is not good but that's a salesman for ya. He probably never had it checked Hope everything works out ok chop. Wonder why the car never gave an alarm message for low oil pressure.

Thats the thing that made my blood boil, it was on. This thing was supposed to be put on a truck, and hauled in. Instead, it was driven in,n and they didn't have enough brains to check the oil. The low oil light was on when I started the car the first time I ever started. It went out, once the oil was in it though the pressure still has me worried.

Wow, that would make me really mad too. There's a reason car salemsen have the bad rap that they do. Anyway, when I bought my 88 Mustang GT back in 93, it too read really low on oil pressure. Always in the bottom 1/4 of the gauge. Rarely if ever came to the 1/2 mark. Level was always fine. I can't remember when it was, but the pressure returned. It might have been the filter I was using or maybe the weight, but the pressure returned. I know that in an effort to increase the pressure (this was still in my young days lol), I switched to 20W50 oil. A friend of mine bought an 82 carb'd 5.0 liter that had 0 oil pressure. He freaked out and in a panic put in Duralube. Oil pressure increased and it never made a rattle. Go figure.
