« on: June 11, 2008, 06:59:05 am »

After years of thinking everything in the States was bigger and better I've just realised this.........

a gallon of fuel over here is more in volume than a gallon over there!! ours is 4.54 litres  ;D

And I thought i gallon was a gallon.  We, afterall, got everything we know about the measurements and volume from you guys. Now we are still about the only country doing things the old way: not using metric methods.

So, how much does 4.54 litres of fuel cost on that side of the pond?  A gallon here just hit $4.00 yesterday for 87 octane.

That's also why Canadian MPG figures that they put on car window stickers are overinflated because they calculate it based on the Imperial gallon. What a scam, eh?  20% difference!    1 Imp gallon = 1.201 US gallon.

Gas here in the Vancouver area is right around $1.45 / litre on avg. That works out to $5.49 for 1 US gallon or $6.58 for an Imp gallon. SO DON'T CRY IN THE US FOR PAYING $4.50 A GALLON!  lol   Luckily I live about 30 min. from the US border.

We're paying about £1-20 a LITRE thats nearly $2 a go.  I run a diesel Honda Accord 2.2CDTi as a company car and pay my own fuel and claim back business mileage so the more economical the better. I've just done appx 1000 miles and averaged 63mpg  ;D
