you sure it's TPI and not TBI? if its stock it's TBI. if it's swapped in from a Camaro/Firebird/Corvette then it's TPI. either way, it's not TOO bad to swap in and will really wake your truck up i'm sure. just label all the wiring and hook up in your body accordingly

My truck had a 305 in it when new...no A/C to hold it back and only 85,000 miles on it right now. I would really like to know what happened to it and why someone replaced it with the 400 thats in it now. Not that I am complaining but makes me wonder why it went bad before 70,000 miles when I bought it. I do know that they have that crappy Electronic Spark Controller and none of the other do I guess. Learned that on here. The guy who swapped my 400 in put the original ESC on the truck and its original HEI from the 305. I took the ESC off so it does not go bad...just something to look into if you keep the 305. It could go bad and shut you down hunting for the reason you have no spark. I had a post on here recently about having no spark and I got a good response on how GM fixed the problem and I followed the article and it took maybe 15 minutes to do. By pass the ESC! You can replace all those ignition parts like module, coil, pickup, and still be guessing when its that ESC. Mine ended up being the pick up coil, but I still bypassed the ESC. Take care and find a small block 400 if you are looking for serious torque! I can imagine having higher compression heads from 70 or 71! Take care and good luck

buddy, if you ever drove a K1500 with the stock, lethargic gearing most came with and a 305, you'll know why it was replaced...i doubt it went bad, probably just got replaced...mine's about to, it only has 80k original miles, still runs fine. i just don't want it anymore...
