Hello! new member with 700 swap problem
« on: July 04, 2008, 12:01:42 pm »
Hello all...new to the site. I'm from Akron, Ohio and own a 74 C10 2wd step side...

I am in the process of buttoning up my 700r swap and have encountered a slight problem. The weight on the trans end of the driveshaft hits the mount for the torque arm (which the truck obviously doesn't use). Has anyone else encountered this problem?
Does the weight come off?
Should I carefully cut the mount off?
Or do I need to swap yokes?

thanks for your help

here are a few pics...

Welcome to the site and nice truck, one comment though, those look like ford truck tail lights. I have never seen a weight like that on a drive shaft before so short of telling you to just get another driveshaft Im not sure how to help you.

thanks....yeah, they are ford taillights :o . They were on the truck when I purchased it, but I think they look pretty good. I think I'll just have to get another yoke without the weight on the end.

Welcome to the site! I have to say I've not seen one of our trucks with a weight either. By the way... yes we are all jealous of the fact you can walk to Summit when you need something. Lorne

Thanks for the warm welcome fellas. Yes, summit being so close is a blessing, or a curse if you ask the woman...lol.  Well I found a yoke from an old project, so I'm going to end up using that with the help of a combination u-joint. So hopefully there will be enough movement left in the yoke, how much is a good rule of thumb (room for the driveshaft to move in and out)?

What happened to the driveshaft that originally came on the truck?  What trans was in it before?  That driveshaft didn't come out of it originally and I wouldn't use it...
