hei- timing advance kit
« on: July 19, 2008, 05:52:55 pm »
hi guys. well first off i have 84 high sierra 2wd. Just put a 350 into it this past feb as it had a tired old 305. i got the motor from an 89 gmc. was my boss's old work truck and crate motor only had 50 000 miles. he said it was a target master. so i replaced all the gaskets and seals, re-manned the heads, mild polish, shave the deck .005, eddie performer intake, msd dizzy w/adj vac. advance, new quadrajet, converted serpentine back to my v-belts, and had to switch over to holley elec. fuel.

anyways, i installed a moroso advance kit, left my msd centrifugal weights which are 20degree, and tried a couple diff spring combos. righth now i think i have 1 light and 1medium spring.  throttle response and low end torque is awesome compared to stock heavy springs. my question is  there anything i should be wary of with having my timing come "all in" so soon compared to stock. i just dont want to be hurting anything when just cruising cause thats when i get the most timing  because of the advance kit and vac advance working together. it doesnt ping or nothing and seems to run pretty good.  i have it runnin a little bit on the rich side just cause id rather be rich than lean and until i find a "good shop" to get my carb set properly as with the timing curve, this is where im at. Im a perfectionist, to some extent at least, so i just want it to be the best that it can be.  any thoughts will be appreciated!!!  Lovin the site as well, i was at gmtrucks.com for a long time until i found this site and for me this is far superior-kudos to all

First off, welcome!  You come to the best Forum out there.  I belong to a lot of them but this is the only one I visit several times a day to read, learn and put my $.02 in where I can.  I am sure you will get the answer you need as I tinker as a hobby and usually in the stock form.

If you like where your timing is comes in and you aren't having any adverse effects it won't "hurt" anything as far as damage.

Thanks for the compliments on the site.
