starter noise
« on: July 23, 2008, 09:03:42 am »
Hoping to get the usual excellent input !
Just put in a new mini-starter, works just fine no problems for couple of weeks driving. Other day really tromped it down and started hearing a VERY load 'click' constant noise that changed somewhat as gas was applied. Made a terrible racket !. Shut her down and restarted no problem BUT still making that sound....drove for a bit more then it stopped and haven't heard it since??

do you have the dust shield installed? if not, something could have jumped up in there and either ground down to nothing or fallen back out.

Do not have a dust shield...never did. Engine is a 305.
Started her up last night , noise is still there ,not as loud, and is difenitely affected by gas pedal pressure.
Maybe not the starter at all?? Truck starts and drives fine??

Check for cracks on the flywheel.  Why did you go with a mini starter?

Is it that tight that is is preventing you from putting it back on?  Stock exhaust or aftermarket?
