Got it for free from my neighbor. He dropped in a jasper crate 350 in 2004 brand new and that has less than 500 miles on it. Wasn't run for 3 years, we got it jumped it and it started right up. Has a lot of work to be done to it but we are hoping to make it into a half way decent mudding truck. The wiring is all messed up, the leaf springs are rusted, shocks need to be replaced, replace transmission gasket, new tranny lines, new brake lines, surface rust, oil pump, water pump, the list is pretty big sized but we got the truck for free and with plenty of hard work and parts it'll git r done.

Came with new 31-12.5" super swampers

We are sanding the whole truck down right now so I decided to try my go at a free hand spray painted chevy logo on the hood, turned out pretty nice.

Plenty of swet and blood into this truck already, 1 week into it and we are all exhausted from our daily jobs then coming here and workin on it till the morning!

Nice truck!  I've got a '79 step side in pieces in the driveway right now.  Thanks for posting the photo showing the stacks coming through the steps.  I toyed with this idea in my head, and now I know it is NOT what i want to do to the truck.  It looks okay, just not my style.

Ya. It is a lot of work but its fun and my buddies come over so if one of us is stumped one of the others will hopefully know. I like the stacks (even though its not diesel) because without it in my opinion it'd be a little boring.

Well the lighting didn't work so we are currently figuaring out what wires are for what and if they need to be replaced. Talk about tetious work! Got the major dent out. Replacing brake, tranny and fuel lines soon along with the gaskets. What do you guys think about a fuel cell for offroading purposes?

Ran into some problems last night. Couldn't get a good ground because it's all rusted!! We are going to be taking engine down and sandblasting/pressure washing it and then hopefully find out what else needs to be fixed. The engine is a 2004 with a 7 year warranty so if we do find anything we can get it fixed. I believe it's a jasper crate any of you guys know anything about them good or bad?

i have put 3 jasper engines in various things and had bad luck with two of the three. i  think that they rush the engines out the door with out doing very good quality control. good luck

I got a second hand Jasper engine once, ran good for about 15K miles...then took a dump. The previous owner only put 2K miles on it, I helped him put the engine in his truck when it was brand new.

What went wrong with the motors you guys bought?

First one: Blew camshaft out the back of the block and broke the flexplate and converter(low grade timing gear bolts)

Second one: Had spun 5 rods at some point and they honed 0.001" out of the rods and left the spin grooves so the new bearings rotated about 1/4 turn on all of them, thus ruining the other 3 when they lost oil.

Third one: Put in, ran for 30 minutes, blew a rod threw the side, bolts on the rod not torqued, we checked the others and they had no more than 22 lb/ft

Fourth one: Ran for 35,000 hard mean miles on a 3+3 dually with 4.56's going 80mph down highway with a th350, it ran great but the guy just beat it until it got tired then he sold the truck.

With companies like northern selling 350 kits for $190.00 + shipping for a good quality kit as is for a toy on a budget, I usually just build my own.  I never bothered with the hardened oil pump shafts, never had a problem, but now when I build one, thats the first upgrade I do every time no matter what.  As Vile so wisely put it, why skimp on a seven dollar insurance policy?
