how do you go about fixing metal that had just enough rust to perforate the metal but yet its still good and solid with no rust through? thanks

Dumbucket, The word preforate means "through/hole" I believe. What you are saying is, the metal is deeply pitted from rust, but not to the point of being through, is this correct? Depending on what parts you are talking about may change the best repair plan. Tell us where/what parts have this rust. Lorne

Sand blast it, you will have holes then!

whoops I meant its pitted pretty deep. Its on the bedsides of my blazer above the wheel wells. The pitted areas feel very solid still, just pitted real good.

Like I said once you blast it you will most likely have holes.

Better off replacing the 1/4 or the section thats pitted pretty badly.

Pits are very difficult to get the rust out of, since you can't really get sandpaper, grinding discs or even wire brushes in there to remove all of it. Best bet is to cut it out. Otherwise you could use some kind of chemical rust encapsulator product to help prevent it from spreading.
