Did it work?? if not I guess back to the drawing board

A friend had a shop in my hometown and came up with them he said "off his tire man's truck". I need to find out if he can still get them, I'd like another set myself. He gave the shop up a few years back but still messes with stuff on the side. They are supposed to be some kind of tire design the millitary was trying out on Hummers, so I'm told. They are 9.00R-16 and measure (at the time I bought and installed them) 36 3/4". (I just call 'em 37's for sake of argument:) ) All other 9.00's I've seen measure around 34".

Hope you don't mind, but I cleaned it up. You should be able to modify your post instead of adding new ones..
Truck looks nice.

Your Truck look nice, need a lot of work to do but take your time to take care of her. I would like to see new pictures of your Truck when you're updated.
I'm wondering what size is that engine have? What kind of Transmission do you have for her? Just curious.

Right now it has nothing in it for an engine
Donated the old tired 305 to my '80 Chev. for a woodcutting truck. I figure dogging around dodging tree's in the woods would be just about all that lil engine could handle, and the '80 has better gears (4:10 vs. 3:73 in the '78....Yeah 3:73's with 37" tires and a 305 redefines the term "underpowered") and smaller tires. Better for woodcutting to NOT have a lift, or BIG tires for us that are getting a bit age challenged
Some day when I get the body lined out better I have a 40 over 400 for her, and it has a 400 turbo like the '80. They were both 400/400 combo's at one time. The '80 was a real hunny, had that engine package plus tranny cooler, engine oil cooler, tilt, cruise, air, power windows and locks, heavy duty chassis posi rear end, lockout hubs. Years and years of feeding cattle made it unrestorable (oh I suppose given enough $$$ a person could do it but I'm spending way more on the '78 than I ever thought it would need) .
BTW, while talking about the 305 I have had several of these engines in the past. They "wake up" nicely with a set of smaller tube headers and good flowing intake for just a few bucks and time. We use them for Demo Derby motors, they hold up well to lots of abuse it seems.
Took off Gas tank and started on pass side rocker/floor mess today. My three year old helped so you can imagine I didn't get alot done. She tries hard just can't turn the wrenches

A few pic's of the '80. I call it my coat of many colors
Gas filler hole, crude but it works for now.
Do you think the cab needs new mounts? hehe

Some progress on the '78, not much but a little bit. Cleared the ngine bay motor in the '80 now) and did some cleaning with a putty knife and wire brush, man it was nasty!
Rocker area
Have any of you ever had the tab on the dipstick tube break off? Both of mine did. Welding seems to NOT be an option. I'll order new ones.

Some pic's of the '78 stuck, doesn't look stuck but the ditch was just wide enough for the tire, no running room and both sides of that ditch were frozen solid. This is what it looked like when it was the woodcutter before I dismantled it.

Made some progress (very little) and had a setback. Cut my right ringfinger to the bone on the second knuckle. Note to self: "Wear the gloves laying up on the dash when working with rusty metal and powertools and don't cut yourself like that in front of your children, the sight of blood makes them queasy"
Gloves! Now there's an idea!!
Rocker fits real nice, too bad I have to take it back off to get the inner rocker, footwell patch and cab support in now.
I'll be away from the project again for a few weeks unless my finger heals faster than I think it will. Post more pics as I get them.

Hope you've had a tetnis shot within the last 10 yrs. If not, go get one.
Keep up the good work.
I layed open my finger from the first knuckle right through the finger nail with a carpet knife a while back... my 7yr old was in the room and I held my words. I think it hurts worse when you do that.

Ha one of the Few Shots I get on a regular basis
I was always told that I would never need another one, after the first time, but I always get one every 10yrs now
No matter how careful I am, I usually cut the crap out of something
The last time 3yrs ago, I was at my local U-Pull getting a console, and I slashed my ring finger in two places down to the bone
I calmly walked to the front counter, asked for some gauze, and some tape to wrap it after I cleaned it thoroughly, then I went back out to get the console...

Healed up (somewhat) and got a little done when the three y/o would let me work on it.
Lots of welding yet to do, getting a nice tan

Worked like a dog this week in attemt to get into the calender
Seriously, kinda put her together to see about fitment and to get the bed and 2wheel drive frame out of the yard. Still lots to weld up in the floor area due in part to the center hump still laying under the truck
For some reason I just love the look of big tires on stock wheels (well these tires) I still haven't found the guy I got them from bmair, I think he left the country
Lots to do but I really like how it's going so far except for the time element, only so many hours in a day tho
