2400lbs in my 1/2 ton '87 silverado!
« on: September 01, 2008, 09:06:57 pm »
so today i put 2400lbs of tile in the back of my truck and hauled it about 15 miles with no problem at all. the tires were about 3 inches into the wheel well. then we went back for another load of 1600lbs. today it hauled 2 tons with no problem. i thought that was impressive for a 21 year old truck with the stock suspension. just thought i would share.  ;D

I hauled one ton of wood pellets for my dad. (40 bags with 50lbs of pellets) It was in my '87 R10 with everything stock. I even had to go up 2 really big hills. No problems at all ;D

That comes as little surprise to me. My '84 1/2 ton 2wd longbed was REGULARLY loaded with over 3 tons of tree stumps and logs, with the only suspension aid being a set of coilover shocks adding 1000 lbs capacity. It was only a problem on two occasions, once when we were pulling the logs out and all 4 of us forgot to remove the tailgate, and a 79" diameter stump flipped up and came down on the tailgate, absolutely destroying it...and the other time was with well over 6000 lbs in the bed, the truck got high centered on the hitch as we were pulling into the brush site.
