This is my best friends truck... it's street legal in Oregon...
I went to Eric's house one day and there were 4 pieces of 4" square stock on his driveway. I asked him what he was doing and he said,
Building a truck, want to help me?
Sure I said and about 4-5 months later we were driving this around. This was back in about 1982ish and I spoke with him on the phone the other day ago and he said his boys just finished rebuilding the 5-Ton Korean War Military Running Gear and they're getting it ready for new paint. Also installed a fresh big block.
I remember cruising the gut in Albany, Oregon, man those were the days...

Does he have a drop-down rope ladder to get into that thing? It must be 5 feet to the rockers!

Hey that's cool. He pretty much built his own monster truck. It would be really cool if he dropped in a blown BBC.

I don't know what it is about that truck....But if it was mine i could see my self getting right up on other cars at traffic lights....within inches of my tiers touching there bumpers...Rev Rev...lol And to make it worse..I would have wide open headers with the pipes coming out from under the front bumper lol

Ha I don't know why, but I think I remember seeing that thing while cruising through Oregon to California when I was a kid!
The thing that always cracked me up about Oregon, yeah it was Legal for people to drive things like that there(Even here for a while, until too many idiots screwed it up for the rest... Ofcourse some Officers will still turn there heads in some areas, but you would need Driving/tail lamps at normal height(Bottom of front bumper in pic), and not act like an idiot with it), yet they made it Illegal for you to pump your own gas.....
The first time my Father and I stopped for gas, I jumped out like usual to pump(10yrs old), and the Gas Monkey told me that he was gonna have the Sheriff come throw me in his jail
Apparently I wasn't EPA Trainned to pump gas like he was
Usually you would have to watch those Monkies, cause they would Pop the hood while you weren't looking, to "Check the Oil and Fluids", and put a slotted screw driver through one of your hoses....

They'd look in the rearview mrror and all they'd be able to see is a pair of big tires following them.

In Kentucky as long as you fit within the yellow lines and clear the power lines you are legal, pending the given stuff(lights, etc.)

I wish Ohio was like Ky. try having a lifted truck here. I got stopped once because the officer was so offended to see something like that on the road. Boo Hoo he just wish he had one instead of that big goofy hat. He didn't think that was funny but he didn't give me a ticket.

I lifted my truck in 94' so it had been around for years never stopped he was the third one to stop me in a week so by then I was a little ticked off so when he said he was so offended to see it I told him I didn't like his goofy hat. I carry a copy of the lift law in the console of my truck so if they try to give me crap I know what they have to measure. Heck half of them don't really know what to do they just think it looks to big. One of them told me my bumper wasn't wide enough cause my tires stuck out past the side so I took the bumper off and put on a roll pan.

I have some more pictures that I'll add to this thread and call Eric and get some specifics on running gear and engine. I know he fabricated his own wheels using two different wheels to make one wheel, basically a hub that would fit the axles and a rim that would fit the Road Grader tires. He used road grader tires because they were DOT rated for 55 mph
I remember driving this down I-5 from Albany to Salem and doing about 80mph, we were passing everyone and it was funny to see the look on everyone's eyes as they were passed by this behemoth...
LOL
