cost to rebuild?

I have a 1981 chevy k10 and am wondering about what i ahould expect to pay to have the front end rebuilt?

What exactly do you want to rebuild? The differential or the tie rods/ball joints? A couple of months ago, I bought new Spicer tie rods and drag link, along with all 4 Moog ball joints. I'm into parts for $250 as of now. I still need to pick up the axle U-joints (about $30) and the two seals for the backside of the hub (about $10). You figure about $45 for an alignment, and your at about $350 to do it all--assuming your bearings and hubs are ok. I've done this job twice before and it takes a long day to do it--it'll go a bit faster if you have air tools though.

What difference did you notice after doing this? Did it seem like the front end and steering became "tight" again like the truck would have been when it was new?

I did it because they needed it and it did improve things. Now if you're steering gear is worn, that adds to the cost and time factor, too.
