Suburban to Jimmy tailgate window motor swap?
« on: October 08, 2008, 11:16:22 am »
Hi I have an 89 Jimmy/Blazer and the regulator stinks. I replaced the tracks, the motor, the cable, and the regulator and it still seems that it isn't strong enough. It runs fine with a drill on the cable. Has anyone ever tried to put a suburban direct drive motor in place of the cable and motor?   ???I think it should work a lot better, but i do not know if anyone has been successful. Otherwise can anyone suggest a way to make the motor work better? It is slow up and down. Any help would be great thanks!

Something else i noticed about these motors-- If you hook the rear motor up to a battery charger on 12v, the motor will not turn. Are these motors 6v or 24v or something? is it possible that there is a voltage converter that is bad and that is why i am not running full power?

a battery charger cannot supply the required amperage, you'll find the same is true of a starter motor.

have you tried the action without a window?

check the power connections and wires for corrosion and damage.
