the bubbles have started!!
« on: October 10, 2008, 11:02:19 am »
hello all i have noticed some bubbles in the paint and unfortinately i know what is behind that! over all the paint is good and dont really want to re-paint the whole truck but want to address the rust before it gets to be a real problem eating metal. basically what are my options. i know i will have to take the spots to bare metal and seal and prime the surface at a mininum. but i dont want my truck to look like it has the chicken pocks with baseball sized spots on the side. i will try and post  pics when i get my camera out and start playing with it. thanks!

Open rust usually means surface rust. Bubbles mean one of two things. Pin holes already in the metal, or someone used body filler to repair rust previously. Bubbles mean moister under the paint. It didn't get there through the paint. Most likely you will find when you remove the paint there will be small holes there.
Your only option to not have spots is to do the repair work to completion with paint etc. If you have a shop do the work they can blend the paint. Then you wont have to paint the entire truck. Or you can paint from the glass down, blending the A and B pillars.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs
