best method/sequence to lower my 1/2 swb
« on: October 16, 2008, 10:51:46 am »
i'm considering a lower stance/rake on my truck.  i've posted before but really wasn't ready until now.  so i'm thinking the best way is to go with the set of rims/tiresi want first right?  my list of to do is 2.5 lower spindles (do i need lower springs too if i just want to only lower front 2.5"?) and then rear 2" shackles (for a rake look) also, i intend to use the CPP tubular arms and eventually upgrade to a rear big brake disc conversion.  i do have the 1" sway bar and want to get my truck like prom night (nice and tight! lol) with a lower stance but not ground scraping low.

of course, the rims of prime choice are most likely torque thrusts or the similar.  i appreciate ya'lls input.  jo3y in baytown.

If you only want to go down 2.5" in the front I would use spindles
western makes 2.5" spindles.  For the rear, I don't know if they have a 2.5" shackle availible.  I just don't remember.

Jo, If your going to do 2 1/2" in the front....I would suggest about 4" or 4 1/2" in the rear. A 2" shackle, hangers & remove the overload spring would be a good way to achieve it. Just my Two cents, Lorne

right now the stance is level with 3 leaf springs in the back currently installed.  i'm not sure what was removed or what, but wouldn't a 2" rear drop shackle with a 2.5" spindle up front give me a rake look?  and the leaf springs are currently above the axle also.  thanks.

Jo, If your rear springs only have 3 leaves, someone has removed at least the overload, maybe more (depending on what they started as). I just assumed the suspension was "unmodified", it takes about a 2" drop in the rear to make the truck level. If it's level now & you want it down 2" all around + a little lower in the front, then you plan sounds good. Have Fun, Lorne

Keep in mind that the Western spindles move your wheels out.  Check with CPP, they offer a spindle that keeps the wheels in the stock location.

By the nature of design all spindles move the wheels out some.  I have never seen any manufacture that doesn't move the wheel out.

actually, i believe the CPP guy told me it moves it in 1 1/18" or 3/8"...i talked to them about spindles for my Nova and my truck and i remember these 2 numbers, just not for which application.

It will always be out, not in on trucks due to the angle of the factory setup.
