new Eaton guts in an old Eaton case
« on: October 21, 2008, 04:17:08 pm »
I recently developed a problem in the rear end of my 75 GMC with factory 12 bolt Eaton posi. We pulled it apart & discovered that one of the shims that sit behind the spider gears got chewed up. Everything else appears to be in great shape. Unfortunatly, these shims are no longer available, the dealer sold me a couple shims that look like they might work with a little help from a di-grinder.
I have a buddy who has a newer style Eaton Performance posi unit for my truck, that has damage to the case that I can buy reasonably. So, was thinking maybe I could swap all the internals from his unit with a bad case into my good case. Just curious if anyone knows if this would work. Thanks, John

The dealer said they aren't availible?
You can update your current one with new pieces from Eaton.  I got my from Randys Ring and Pinion.
