Where is the tempature sensor located
« on: June 15, 2009, 12:24:03 pm »
Hey guys. Now that the oil gauge is working agin, I thought I would go after the tempature gauge, since that is not working as well.

I figure before I ask noob questions like "what makes it work" I thought I would apply some of my previous knowledge to the problem.
I assume that Ill be needing a new "tempature sensor unit" or something that reads the tempature of the engine and sends it to the gauge.

Can someone tell me where this sensor is located please so I can look for it myself and fix/replace it.

ok thanks,
Pete

If it's a small block it'll be on the drivers side head. It's called a temperature sending unit. The sensor is for the computer.

If I remember correctly its on the drivers side of the block towards the front with one wire going to it,,, up near the manifold just below the valve cover.

On the side of the driver side head, between the exhaust ports for cyl #1 and #3.

like vile said the sending unit is what you need or temp switch it looks like this one
part number should be TU66  at the zone
the sensor thats for ecm looks like this one you don't need it is in the intake

Wonder why they don't just use the same exact sensor? Make things easier...

Because they operate differently and have different resistance values. The NTC sensor is a negative coefficient thermistor.
