Keep it clasic
stay with v belt
There is nothing wrong with my V belt system, but I like to be different...I mean, look at the color of my truck...

The vans got the crappy stamped steel brackets, find a 87 up caprice or 4.3 V6 truck , they got the nice aluminum brackets.
Make sure you get the crank pulley and the WP pulley from the same car or truck you get yours from, My engine had a van system on it and when i went to install the belt, It was offset different, lucky I still had the Caprice pulley.

Thanks Jim. When I do get a serpentine setup, Ill probably get everything off the engine and then determine later what I need new parts for. It is my understanding that all engines that have a serpentine setup have a reverse rotation water pump?

Yes due to the way the belt is wrapped around the pulley makes it turn opposite of the way it does with a v belt.

Are there any problems with hooking up the power steering pump? Should I use the stock pump or the pump from the serpentine kit?

yea use the serp P/S pump and just install your old return line, and since yours is a 79 you will need to use your pressure line too, just swap it out from the back of the pump.

Here's pic for your question about the 3-hole heads
Look at the front end of the heads for the 3 holes in each one. As long as your heads have 3 holes in the front end where the accessories bolt up, the setup will work from any other sb with the 3 holes and 4.3L V6's. I think it was only 69 and older engines that didn't have the holes

78, thanks. I wasnt too sure on it and didnt want to put all the effort in pulling everything and then have to return it to the junk yard or loose money on Ebay.
