Serpentine system questions
« on: December 29, 2009, 11:06:28 pm »
I would like to convert my V belt setup to serpentine system without having to pay for a expensive March setup. This Ebay sale says its for 3 bolt heads. Is it talking about the 3 bolt valve cover style found on the TBI engines? I dont have that so I dont think that would work. I know I saw a post on here where someone took a setup off of a 89-92 Camaro. Either way, if this ebay sale wont work, what donor vehicles should I be looking for for a serpentine setup?

I think the power steering pump might be a issue as well as the water pump. I would like to figure out what to look for.

3 bolt valve covers were only V6. They mean 3 accessory bolt holes. Do you have AC and A.I.R.?

I do not have A/C or AIR. All I would need is crank, alt, water pump and P/S. I just looked at a picture I saved of the camaro setup I was talking about and he has a AIR delete pulley. That would work for me, but I would rather have my alt stay on the passenger side.

I tried to get mine off a 91 4.3 blazer, but I decided to get the kit from gm performance parts. No a/c made it a little cleaner for me with just the pulley instead of the compressor w/o air.

layne, when you got the kit from GMPP, what year and model did you reference? or did you piece it together?

I have been seeing serpentine belt systems on TBI motors, will it all bolt on? Can I use the system as long as its a small block?

One of the guys at work said to look for a early 90's van, thats what he used on his setup with the delete pulley

As long as I buy a new water pump for the TBI vehicle I took the setup off of, I should be good? Ive been looking at all the serpentine setups I saw and all the water pumps were CCW, unlike the one on my truck which is CW.

Was it a delete pulley for AC or the AIR?

I was at the north SJ site and there were a few vans there. PITA to get to the front of the engine though...
