Gas pedal stiff on TBI
« on: June 21, 2011, 12:04:44 pm »
Hey guys, I have an 87 silverado with a 350 tbi eng. and 700R trans.  My gas pedal is hard to push. I've tried two different tbi units and the last one I rebuilt. I have a brand new throttle cable and the trans cable is adjusted correctly. Am I missing something? I've had other TBI trucks and the gas pedal was normal. I am doiing jackrabbit starts every time I take off. Anyone else have this problem?

Nope. Is the cable binding?

It could still be binding. Did you lube the sleve around the cable that comes out of the firewall?

Disconnect the cables and turn it by hand. Hook up one cable at a time and see which one is giving resistance.

Check the pedal in the truck....

Unhook cable and see if the pedal is binding...

Do you have a return spring hooked to it?

How stiff is your throttle return spring? That could be a culprit as well.

If you have a spring on a TBI THAT is the problem.  The return spring is built into the Throttle body.
