I don't know if this is good or bad (volt meter)
« on: October 17, 2011, 02:36:39 pm »

the reason I ask is that a year old battery just totally died on me. It would not take a charge or anything. I don;t want that to happen to the replacement. the Alt is new (since Feb) and is form advance auto. that is a picture of the Volt gauge at idle. is it over charging?

thanks

According to the gauge you should be fine.

I dont fully truck any gauges especially on electrical component. Check with a multimeter at the battery when the truck is running. In my experience anything over 14 volts will bake a 12 volt battery. i like to see 13.8 volts max on a 12 volt system when the engine is running. the gauge does say ok, but Id double check to make sure.

Agreed, check with a meter.
