I INSTALLED A ELDELBROCK CRAB THAT I GOT FROM A GUY AT WORK ON MY 79 305. WHEN YOU TAKE OFF IT HESITATES. WHAT MAY BE WRONG.

A Edelbrock Crab eh?
Check the accelerator pump. Depress it with the engine. It should stall the engine if it's good

^ I'd like to check mine too (also an Edelbrock crab lol). But I'm not quite following you on your directions. Are you missing a word in there somewhere? I was told if you have the engine off and move the throttle linkage at the carb by hand, a big splooge of gas should come out of the jet into the center of the carb venturis. It shouldn't be a dribble but a big squirt.

Nope engine idling depress the accelerator pump plunger all the way down. It should stall the engine. If it doesn't stall the engine you have an inadequate supply of fuel discharging from the acclerator pump. With the edlebrock carb you'll have to pop the little S shaped retainer off of the accelerator pump in order to depress it. With a Q-jet you can just press it down with a small screwdriver.
