Possilbe sticking lifter/valve, How do I remove sludge?
« on: July 26, 2009, 05:31:53 pm »
Hey guys, just wondering what you use to flush out your engines.  I have used "Gunk" engine flush at recent oil changes and it seems to release alot of crap. But what else short of dropping the pan can I do? My old man told me to drain the oil and fill up with 50/50 cheap oil and diesel then let it idle for 15-20 min, then drain and change filter and put in good oil.  What do you think?

Michael

BTW my truck is an 84 k-10 350 Eledelbrock carb

Keep using that stuff until it no longer releases crap. Other than that all you can probly do is pull it all apart and take it to the machine shop.

A quart of ATF does wonders. A quart a hundred or so miles before an oil change. Plus a quart of 50/50 ATF and gas slowly poured down the carb while running about 2000 RPMs will unstick a valve too.
The diesel thing works pretty good too. Not sure I would do 50/50 but a quart or two and the rest oil.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Have you tried Seafoam?  I heard that stuff clears up gunk pretty good.

Just buy a can of engine flush and follow the directions. If it's that sludged up you may end up plugging up your oil pump pick up though

Seafoam works great plus you'll kill all of the mosqitos around if you also run it through your vacum lines.Get 2 cans for everything.
