excessive play on the axle shaft
« on: August 22, 2009, 06:55:53 pm »
i went to replace the locking hubs on my 78 k20 and when i pulled the passenger side  hub off i noticed that the axle shaft has play in it.  i can move the shaft maybe a quarter inch in and out and side to side and up and down.. the driver side has no play in it at all.. i took the tire off and i can do the same thing if i play with it at both ends of the ujoint...

so does anyone have any idea what this could be?

i think i'm going to end up just replacing everything.. i dont think the ujoint is bad, cause there is play before it in the shaft too.. but figure better safe than sorry
