porting heads suggest
« on: November 08, 2009, 04:33:47 am »
Hello guys!

I must remove heads from my '81 k5 Blazer 305 engine, 'cause i must replace old lifters with new ones OE.

I'm thinking that it could be a good thing check-out heads for crack or damage and doing "porting heads".

With "porting heads" process, which other process it's important?

if i improve air flowing, intake manifold must be replaced with better new?

or for example with new exhaust manifold?

If air runs better but it's blocked by tight exhaust manifold, i think could be just an hald good job.

Thanks guys for attention.

Fabio

Why are you replacing the lifters? I wouldn't waste my time porting 305 heads unless I did some significant engine mods.

ive heard the price of having port work and all done by a shop is close to the same cost wise as just buying an aftermarket set

like vile said i don't know about a 305 but if you were to do it you should get your manifolds exhaust and intake ported and matched with it all and i would also go with headers to help out a little. and aftermarket intake

Fabio, Welcome to the site! I also agree with the others...Don't bother. By the way, you do not need to remove the heads to replace the lifters, I also question though...Why must you replace the lifters? Lorne

If you are replacing the lifters because of wear, putting new ones on a used cam will not fix anything.
