best frame/body coating

I plan to tear my project truck down to the frame in a couple months and I want to coat the frame with rubberized compound. I have seen a lot of posts regarding POR-15 and Chassis-Saver. I looked up POR-15 website and their product seems pretty sensitive to proper application. (Needs PERFECTLY dry surface, 1 drop of moisture ruins mixture, finished product needs topcoat to avoid UV damage, etc).
I am interested in something that is pretty easy to apply and not too picky about application. It also NEEDS to be very tough, because I only want to do it once. I know from experience that most (maybe even all) spray on bedliners and undercoats that come in rattle cans are not very tough.
I plan to coat the frame, firewall, and inner fenders. What have you guys used that would meet my needs?

I've been using POR15 for years and have never done more than cleaning the surface before applying it. I never used a prep, primer, etc and it always came out mint. So I wouldn't be too worried about it for your frame. Chasis saver some of the guys on here use it and say it's the same but cheaper.

I was going the Chassis Saver route, but by the time I was finished with spring mounts, cab mounts, etc, the frame was all cleaned.  I just ordered up some extra epoxy primer and used it.  I'm painting anyway.  From what I've read, no real need to topcoat as the cab/bed will protect it from UV rays.

How does POR-15 and Chassis Saver look brushed or rolled on? Does it look and cover a lot better sprayed on? Got any pics?

I normally spray POR-15, but you can brush it.  I flows pretty good with a brush.
I don't have any pictures of it rolled on.  You can top coat POR-15 with enamel.

It looks fine brushed on, it flows out real good. I spray it because you can turn the fan down to a stream and blast it in behind cross members brackets etc. I have used POR 15 and Chassis Saver. They both work awesome, but as Vile said Chassis Saver is about half the price. I only top coat Chassis Saver on rims or inside a bed etc. where the sun can get to it. I brushed it on the roof of my 55 ( it was covered with a light surface rust ) then sprayed Five Star high build urethane primer over it. Sanded the primer and painted it with Omni single stage. About three years ago and have had no problems with it. I did the bumpers on my 86 then sprayed right over the Chassis Saver with SEM brand spray on bed liner. I sand blasted them to bare metal, left them outdoors for about a month, then brushed it on. Gave it about an hour to tack up, then sprayed the bed liner on.
I have top coated them both with Imron, urethane enamel, & acrylic enamel.

One last question. How much product does it normally take to coat a frame? (Mine is a crew cab frame)

I am at a little less than a quart and about half way thru it

1 Quart should do a whole truck frame, suspension and diff and any miscellaneous parts you have.

they have this in a semi gloss do u think this one would be alright with out having to pint over it? i was looking to do a arms and frame pretty much everything frame down.

If you really want a finish that will be tough and last check with your local powdercoater, I use to be in that business and we had frame look good when done with powdercoat.

yea i checked on that $600 for them to pick up the frame blast , prime and power coat it. but it has to be striped to a bare frame and i just dont have the time or shop to do that in.http://

I was thinking about using spray or roll on bed liner. I wonder how it would look or work? HHMMM

I would advise against rattle can cheap bedliner stuff because it'll peel right off. The REAL bedliner stuff works real good as an undercoating. If you want cheap buy a gallon of Rustoleum black and roll it on. Where you can't roll it on spray it.
