When I rebuilt my engine, I forgot to put the steel fuel line behind the alt and smog pump, so I cut the steel lines and ran rubber from the pump to the carb. Well, I decided to add a fram in line filter to my hose for when I replace my carb. Hardly any fuel is in the filter. It still runs, but it really looks like it shouldn't. Its a new mechanical fuel pump. Yet, it doesn't look like its pumping. My friends 76 fills his in line filter. And so does my dads jeeps. Any thoughts?

It isn't supposed to be filled.  There is nothing wrong.

What about my dads jeeps and my friends truck? There's are pretty much full. Mine has barely any in the bottom of the filter, and I can see the fuel coming from the line. But, the fuel level no where near reaches the top fuel line to the carb.

If it's mounted in a rubber hose you can hold the "to carb" end upwards to fill it more.  If it's hard mounted there's nothing you can do but tip the whole truck. ;) It won't hurt anything like it is though. Mines not even 1/4 full and my truck runs fine up to 4500RPM.  It used to bug me, but I've assimilated that as normal so I'm good now.

Well, its still running, so I'm not WORRIED about it. I'm just..... Perplexed? Why would 3 other vehicles fill their fuel filter and mine barely has any fuel?

Easy fix for that........Get a filter you can't sent thru, then you'll never know how full it is.  :P

Seriously though, all the clear filters I've ever seen on stock fuel pumps keep a lower level like you describe when  mounted horizontally. When mounted vertically, they get full. Either way, like said above, as long as they keep the bowl on the carb full it's not an issue.

There are two tools needed, duct tape and WD40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD 40.

Take a look at this picture and maybe this will make it easier to understand. It's normal to see the fuel filter partially full
