truck cough
« on: April 12, 2013, 08:35:15 pm »
My truck has recently developed a cough/stutter it only seems to happen at mid throttle it wont happen once I am up to speed, or when I give it more to get up a hill. But going from a dead stop it coughs like crazy. It also runs just fine in park I can rev it up no problems. Im thinking I should start looking at the distributor cap and rotor. I just replaced them mabey I screwed something up? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I'm almost sure that you have a vacuum leak.  Probably a cracked rubber line somewhere.

Been working on the truck all morning still cant figure this out. I cant find any leaking vacuum lines. It runs fine for a mile or two then starts acting up again. It was running fine, before I replaced the following, right side exhuast manifold, dist cap and rotor, map sensor, thermostat, and the preheater hose. this cough has me stumped its almost like a really quiet backfire. Could it be my pick up coil? At this point im just guessing.

Could you have accidentally crack the ceramic on a spark plug or damage a spark plug wire?

Obviously tried Robitussin first thing but it fouled my injectors, the vicks vapor rub on the air filter proved equally useless.  In all seriousness I guess Its skipping. But I think I found my problem when I looked closely at the plug wires. one was partially melted. time for a new set. any suggestions, What brand do you guys use?

Always run a good quality set of ignition cables don't get the cheap ones.
