Wiring for 400 Transmission Kickdown

The molded plug for my kickdown switch is gone.

There is a frayed single orange wire through the firewall that should go a single terminal on the transmission housing.

The switch appears to be activated by a two-wire trigger on the accelerator pedal: orange off through the firewall, and brown/white to pick up power at the fuse box. This is confirmed by the Wiring Diagram.

I ordered a replacement and the molded plug has two receptacles and two wires, an orange and a black.

What to do with the black? Ground on the chassis? Cut it off? Where was the original circuit grounded?

Thanks for your help!

The detent solenoid is case grounded. Are you saying the pigtail has an extra terminal? If so just leave it, It can be used for future
