I have a 73 GMC 3/4 ton that I had bought for parts, so I didn't register it.  Much later, I decided to fix it up and make it a running driving vehicle.  Problem is, I put another cab on it, (the original was rusted, as many 73s are), so there is no VIN on it, and my paperwork was lost in a garage fire.  I can't for the life of me find the VIN number on the frame.  I have been told that it is on the driver's side rail under the cab, that it is on the right side, that it is just ahead of the right-rear cab-to-frame mount, that it is just ahead of the the left-rear cab mount, and I have looked in all those places, but I can't find it anywhere.  I have unbolted the cab and raised it up and used a mirror, and STILL can't find it.  HELP!

PS:  When I got this truck, it was an automatic, but I put a manual trans in it.  Could the numbers I am looking for be under the transmission crossmember on the driver's side?
