dumb question
« on: July 19, 2008, 08:30:48 AM »
So I'm trying to remove the instrument bezel and I am not sure how to remove the headlight knob. I assume you unscrew it but I don't want to break it.  ???

Look (feel) under the dash on the headlight switch, You will find a spring loaded button, push the button in and remove the knob.
Hang him !!!    (Judge Roy Bean)  Looters will be shot on site !!!

Toolmaster, thanks for your reply. I don't see or feel the button you are referring to. Where is the button located on the switch? I can get my hand under the dash and move the switch around but I can't seem to find the button. Thanks again!

I've removed my bezel several times without removing the headlight switch knob.

I don't see how that's possible. The headlight knob is in front of the bezel. ??

everytime i've had to take my bezel off i've never taken the headlight knob off either. all it takes is a little bit of wigglin around.
Are you just gonna lay there and bleed or are you gonna cowboy up?

yes you just have to kind of wiggle it around but if you want to pull it out it's easy. Reaching behind the instrument cluster, depress the shaft retaining button and remove switch knob and rod.

I've removed my bezel several times without removing the headlight switch knob.

On the 73-76's, the bezel surrounds the switch to the point that the opening is just large enough for the rod to go through.

Well in that case, I was simply telling him to make him jealous.  :D

That's funny... I thought I was going crazy!  :o I never did find the button to release the rod. I ended up just supporting the bezel on a toolbox and letting it hang on the headlight switch rod. In the end it was a bust anyway since the fan blower switch that I ordered was the wrong one. I assume they sent me the switch for non-AC trucks. Oh well... Thanks again for the help guys!

The switch is on the column side of the switch body.
