2wd floor cab in 4wd truck
« on: January 07, 2009, 06:04:53 pm »
Well after ive gotten the cab corners inner and outter, replaced the full rockers with the 2 dr cab parts and suburban on both sides and painted the firewall..I nbeed to know if the 2wd cab of the 3+3 will clear the tarnny and x fer case on my 4wd th400 and 205 combo.

The cab year is 81+ as i cant tell(no vin) and my truck is a 88 c+c truck 2 dr dually.454 th400/np205.

If it doesnt clear can i run just a small 1" or 2" body lift.I dont want to cut out both floors as im limited on space and time.Im using my jobs shop on the weekend and cant have the  place looking like a junkyard..

I think you can just unbolt and replace the hump with a taller one from a 4x4. If not, someone will set the record.

If it is a crew cab it should already have a high tunnel in it.

If your seats and cpt are out, take a look at the hump bolt pattern. As far as I know, the 80's floor pans are all interchangeable between 2 and 4wd models. The only difference is the hump. You may be able to transfer the hump into the crew from the 2door cab.

I dont have a hump thats removeable in either cab..I think its only the manual trucks that have the removeable hump.

I really wish i woulda knew about this before i welded in the new drivers floorpan

OOOHHH. I thought they all unbolted. My 81 is a 4sp and I never had the mat out of the Blazer I used to have. Sorry about that. I never wouldv'e thought they would've made different.

BTW: How difficult would it be to pull(unbolt) a hump from a manual 4wd and put it in the crew? Drill some holes, weld in some flanges and nuts? Make yours so you can remove it. Just a thought.

You can always modify it if need be or put in a small body lift.

yeah i was thinking of that, actually taking the 4wd hump out by cutting oversized and screwing it to the new cab, but i dont see myself needing to  go all that far fro a daily driver..It may be what i will do in the end if it doesnt clear.

i think im gonna try to  get the cab off the truck and maybe have time to set the 4 door cab on to see what it looks like..this weekend.I just wanted to have the poly bushings and new hardware to bolt it down..Truthfully im plum tuckered out from bodywork.

If you have one with a high tunnel you can cut it out and put in in the CC...

Vile, what size lift are we talking, will 1" be sufficient?  I'm in the same pickle, as I saved the bolted cover from the 4x4 cab, but later found out the tunnel itself was higher.

As a side note, I'm dropping the t-case using the "Cross-member spacer swap" since the truck has a 4" lift.  I'm assuming this will help with cab clearance issues, but how much?  Will a body lift (or higher tunnel) still be necessary with the lower t-case?

Thanks,
Smitty

The upper portion of a bolted cover drops down on top of a 4x2 tunnel.  There are only 2 sizes of tunnels, high and low.

I have a new 2wd auto trans cab I'm putting on a Manual trans 4WD frame. The 2wd floor has to be cut out then u can bolt the 4wd trans cover over. The other problem is that the middle of the floor under the seats has to be made higher as well. Luckily the only thing good on my 4wd cab is the center floor so Im gonna weld it into the 2wd drive cab. I also heard somewhere the cab mounts were different. I was told I would nedd  21/4" spaces on the rear cab mounts for a 2WD cab on a 4WD frame???

well i finally got the 2 door off and sat the crew on..Being as i have a c+c frame there is a cross member that is in the way along with the frame railks..I could work my ass off to sink the cab low enough and rid the saddle tanks..But this is just a daily and tow pig..So im going to run a body lift at the front of the cab and build new mounts..This way the small hump floor clears by a mile..Im not happy with doing this but i need the truck on the road..The downside that i see is that the clutch fan will be off and out of the fan shroad..If it doesnt stay cool then i will run the dual 4th gen z28 fans from my woods truck.

Im gonna  build mounts try to mod the saddle brackets for the tanks and get it all bolted up and hang the sheetmetal..I will post pics when i get a decent camera
