What the? can you help me with this lug nut? pic

OK the PO must have lived in an area of Sacremento where the wheels are a hot item to steal or something. He has some nice aftermarket lug nuts, but one of them seems to be one of those security-type ones. can you dudes recommend a way that I can get this off to have a look at my suspension?
I feel sorta dumb asking about how to get this nut off, but if someone could steer me for a moment, that would be cool. If I need a special tool from somewhere,that would be the fastest solution. any thoughts on the type or name of this tool? its the lug nut at about 4 o'clock.

looks like an autozone lugnut key to me. If you can't find a key or get it off easily get a wheel lock removal kit.

Maybe a tire place that deals with installs would have a key(ie. Mr.Tire, Pep Boys, Sears etc). They may remove the lock nut on each wheel for nothing if you ask them. Might be worth a try.

Weld a lug nut to it.

Just use a craftsman socket and a bfh  
Pound the socket on and remove it like a normal lug.
I use a craftsman for this job,because if it breaks it's under warranty

that is an autozone lug nut just match the keys up and  your good to go. but all the other ways work

Check the easy solution at Autozone first, but it could be one from McGard (are they one in the same?) which I have on my new rims for the wife's PT Cruiser.  According to the instructions that came with the security lugs each key is different.  There was a special serial code with the lugs so I could order a new key if need be.  I tend to believe it since TireRack sent me the wrong size security lugs the first time, and the keys between the two sets were not interchangeable.  If that's the case with yours, you're outa luck and will have to use the removal kit vile suggested, or try to weld a nut on.

I like them personally, they're cheap insurance.  $20 a set just might keep your expensive rims on the truck.  Granted if someone wants them bad enough they'll find a way to get them, but it hinders the quick-thief.

yeah good call.  I live in the middle of nowhere so its not really an issue here. but I understqand your point.

Ill check it out at autozone, but this might give me an opportunity to get a small welder past the warden.

  Craftsman makes a tool for this. They call it the lugnut lock remover and I think I paid about $30 for the kit. It looks like a socket but it has groves cut in it. Like Bfofish said you just hammer it on and then use a 1/2" drive to back it off. I use mine all the time, let me know if you need pictures of it.
  Bye the way hang onto those rims, they are drilled for Chevy & ford/dodge, handy to have around.

woah, thanks for that tip. I didnt know that. the reason i want them off is to measure the backspacing so I can get some new wheel ideas.

Im sure I will sell them when  get some new wheels figured out on here. I need to get in there, measure etc, to wee what kind of wheels I can get stuffed in there without looking, well, ghettoed out. I also need to see what kind of drop is installed. I think its a drop spindle, but i cant tell.
When I do get these off, Ill post a pic of whats in there asking if you guys recognize the drop setup. I think its belltech in the rear, but I cant tell up front.

I didnt notice that they were drilled for those other models. thats kinda cool i think.

My goal is to get some 20"s in there. but they have to be tasteful; not look like some food processor attachment.

I really hate to ask, but did you look in the glove box to see if the prev owner left the lug nut key in there?
That is where I keep mine.
