yea i can see if i can find a 700r4 and 208 set up but it looks like the 205 is winning lol

ok i have a 383 that i will be putting in and i will be swaping for another transfercase and tranny but right now i have a th350 and a 203 tcase so if i was to get the th400 and 205 what would i need to get from the parts truck?

 Crossmember, torque converter, both driveshafts, the Alum.400 conveter cover with the two strut arms, the trany lines, dip tube and the vacuum line(manifold to modulator) The gas pedal assy.with switch and the wire from the switch to the transmission. any and all the attaching hardware.

yea i have to check one junk yard and if he does not have a truck then i will have to check a few more but i am hoping that one of them has what i need

I always liked my 203's as full time.  The kit saves some mileage, but not a great deal and it does cut down on wear on the front axle, but again, go through the frontend and replace the joints and put in some good greasable ones and service them when they need it.  Course, I like the front drive flanges... when its time to play I just drive in rather than get out and lock the front or hope the auto hubs work, my stuff is tied in forever.

hey has any body on here seen a cross member and a skid plate on there 4x4 trucks like this i just have the cross member for the transfer case and transmission both but it shows in my haynes manual with a cross member for the transmission and a skid plate

i just dubble checked and i have holes for a skid plate on the passengers side but not the other side i was thinking that maybe it was just on 3/4 ton or 1 tons

I have an extra factory crossmember, and I have considered bolting that as shown and mounting some steel to it. With my truck being a long wheel base, I would hate to tear my 205 up if I got it high centered!

Yes, (that's what 's on mine)  You just need to find the transfer case with the correct input shaft.  Don't quote me on this, but I believe the th350 was 27 spline, and the th400 was 32.  If you are going to do more than putting a part time kit into the 203, personally I'd be looking for a parts truck.  You'd have the trans, transfer case, adapter, crossmember, and driveshafts if you needed a different length.

If cost is a factor, I wouldn't discount the 203, how many years did it run in your truck before the teardown?

ok good i have a th350 just need to find a 205, would i need the 203 for this at all? and yea i have been looking for a parts truck but i did not ever drive this truck it sit most of the time

The NP205 is worth every penny. 

I have seen these things hold up to some pretty radical 4x4 truck pullers with out fail.

Also, I didn't see it mentioned yet, but the NP205's ID tag is on the front of the case underneath the 2 shift rails.

It is typically a square piece, especially on the older models, and not round like all of the other NP/NVG t-case models.

I just realized a week ago that there is a difference in input shafts for the np208. I had a 81 208 that was behind a th350 and the shaft was smaller than the one behind my 4 speed. Make sure you get the right one for whatever trans you decide on. Whole parts rigs are the best.

I put a mile marker kit into a 203 about fifteen years ago. I can't remember the particulars but it was easy, worked perfect, and I used that truck for mud bogs. Never had a problem with that 203.
