wheel spacers
« on: January 31, 2009, 05:08:34 pm »
looking for knowledge about wheel spacers on a 4x4- good idea?  have a set of 16" wheels to go on my 91 Suburban (oobs), American Racing Baja's- #883.  anyway, they bolt on but touch the tie rod (guess the BS is barely too much).  factory wheels(15") seem to have 1/2 inch clearance in this spot.  they don't hit til i tighten lug nuts down, so it's just barely touching. so, i was thinking a 1/2 inch wheel spacer would allow these wheels to work.  i guess i would need to put them on all four corners, not just the front (back wheels bolt up fine).  any problems with using wheel spacers?  don't do any wheeling really, daily driver.  are wheel spacers safe?  good places to get them?

If it is a good wheel spacer I wouldn't think twice about it.  BTW, nice to see you here again.  I swear I passed you the other day pulled over on the side of the road.
I would make sure if I got some they were billet pieces.

I have a set of 2" spacers for the rear I had on my blazer but took it off when I sold it. I was running them with 35"s and never had a problem. How much clearance do you need on the front?

well, i think .5"  would do it, but .75 would make me feel better.  having said that, i may try and sell them- seems like by the time i buy good spacers i'll have as much in these wheels as I could sell them for and get a diff set.

was i working when you saw me?  may have been.

Yes you were working.

If you can sell them you will probably be cheaper in the long run.  I think Toolmaster PM'd you about a set local that would work that I was going to tell you about.
