Do you have more than a single project truck you are working on?
« on: February 19, 2009, 10:34:54 am »
I wish I had more space... bigger driveway, a shop building instead of just a standard 2-car garage.  So I am limited to just one Chevy truck at the present time/circumstances.  Plus I have started a family!  One of these days, I would like to buy some property just outside of town, maybe with an old barn that I can use for my shop.  (big sigh here).  I envy you guys that have a shop and space for our hobby, old Chevy trucks.  I recently had to part with my '73 C20 longbed, "Ole Reliable".  I still look for her to be sitting in my driveway, even though I know, she's gone. (sigh) If I had more space, I probably would have kept that truck.  But I already have a project truck.

I seem to have this pattern of finding old cars and trucks (or they find me).  Hobby or obsession?!?  I just prefer the solid construction of the Detroit auto manufacturing of yesteryear.

So how many of you out there have more than one project truck you are working on?  I see that Blazin has a truck fleet going on there at his place.  ;D  They can be active projects or something you were working on, and its on hold right now.  Private owners only, auto shop owners exempt please.

1) 1978 Jimmy - completed the TPI swap, working on the floorpan and routing Exhaust as time permits
2) 1987 Pickup - currently a Daily Driver, but I hope to start on the bodywork while it is still mobile before the LS conversion
3) 198X Pickup - currently it is the mockup for the LS conversion for Truck #2.  I am picking up pieces/Parts as time allows.  It will eventually become the truck shown on captkaoscustoms.com Lowered, 73 tilt frontend, Hilborn injected 454, 5 speed etc...
4) 1991 Crew Cab - Family Trips Truck-  Just a driver now, but the rear seat will be recovered (not bad right now) and I would really like to do a shortbed conversion
5) 1990 Suburban - Barge - runs and drives need a complete repaint and interior fabric refresh

Good question. I currently have a few, mine is always a project 22years I've never been done with. I also have an 83' k10 swb I'm building with my son, an 86' k5 blazer I've had for about 5years I had given it to my oldest son to work on but he hasn't touched it in 2 years so I recently aquired it back so I'm going to start on it as soon as I can get the other one a little further along. I also have an 88' ext cab my dad gave me that was his since new it has been custom stretched almost 28' long with tandem axels in the rear. I work out of an oversized 3 car garage at my house that seems to never have enough space. I know I'm as bad as everyone else I drive my wife nuts everytime I see a good deal on a truck she always gets on me about finish the ones you got. But I think she has came to realize don't be surprised if I drag something home. When we bought our hoiuse it has a huge drive way and I say the more cars/trucks we have is kinda like security you never know when someone is home or not. Ya see there is 10 running cars that sit in the driveway 3 of my kids drive my wife has 2 cars I have 2 trucks and a car I drive so ya never know who's home and who's not. good method of security I think.

 81 pick up 8'stepside bed with 12"lift, taking out the 12" lift/44"tires to install a 4" lift/33"tires
69 camaro 350(@325H.P)/manual valve body turbo 350/Dana 60- waiting to install the 350 (400H.P.) motor I have for it.
82 pick up (2 w.d.) with a homemade bed on it. Decent little truck. Someday I'll replace the bed with a stepside bed.
82 pick up 4x4 stepside. Bought it to use the bed on the 2w.d. truck. Decided this truck was worth saving.
82 fleetside 4x4. It's a rat but someone put a nice 6' bed on it. Someday I'll use this bed on something.
91 suburban 4x4. If I do the 82 stepside 4x4 over I'll use this nose and doors on it (I love the power mirrors). I told Vile  he can have the TBI set up off it come springtime.
2000 crew cab 4x4 Daily Driver. It's a shortbed so I'm keeping an eye open for a 88+ stepside bed for it.
Realistically if I can get the 81 stepside lowered and the 400H.P motor in the camaro by the summer I will be happy.

I only have my one truck.  (I have a '57 Porsche 356A Sunroof Coupe that I need to get back on)  I have been jonesin' for another truck, however.  How in the heck did I change personalities from restoring Porsches to Chevy trucks????  I still can't figure it out.

I've been toying with the idea of a Suburban, however.  I had a sweet '90 Suburban that I sold in '95 and the memories are tugging me back.  It was the best road machine I ever had.  Plus, with a 40 gallon tank, you could go on and on forever.

I probably ought to get back to the Porsche since it needs lots of sheet metal and labor (which is cheap)...........for now.

(thanks for adding the appropriate emoticon, Cap!)

After today I may be adding another one to the list.  I found a fulltop convertible and a windshield frame (in addition to the halftop and windshield frame I got last week) picking it up March 21st, AND I looked at a 85 Blazer 4x4 that I drove with back passenger floorpan and rocker along with a donor running 87 shell with running gear for $1800....

All i have right now is my one truck.  once the engine/trans get sorted out I'll be hunting for a 74 corvette hopefully.
