Where is a good (preferably cheap) place to buy beauty rings?
« on: February 26, 2009, 01:27:44 am »
I call 'em beauty rings cause that's all i have ever hear 'em called. They are those silver rings that go on the outer edge of the rims that came on most of these trucks. Here is a pic posted by another member that has them in it. I am looking for a good place to buy them as i will be restoring my wheels next week. Thanks - Justin

Also, if they guy who posted this pic shows up, do you happen to remember the wheel paint that you uses?  Any gloss? I have had some friends that have had really good luck with just plain old wheel paint from autozone.

Honestly the best place I have found for Wheel Beauty Trim Rings( Beauty Rings is the correct abbre. For them), is any Local Large Auto Salvage / Wrecking Yards.... I have gotten a set of 5 Stainless for $40, and the funny thing is, most of the tire or wheel guys look at me oddly for buying them(No body ever wants them, and they think they're sticking it to me for that price.... Last set I got, the wheel guy Laughed at me when I grabbed them with the steeles I was buying, so he threw them in for $Goose Egg!).... Stay clear of any wheel or tire shops, as they will charge you anywheres from $150-400 for a set of Stainless, or $85-120 for a set of plastic junk ones....

eBay has IT.  Do a search on "15" rally trim ring"

Thanks guys. I will take a look at my local truck junkyard for some rings, that's a good idea. If i pick and choose, i can probly put together a set of stainless with no dents/scratches.

Ok next question. Wheel paint. Think the spray can wheel paint that they got down at autozone will last? It says that it's for wheels, but it cant be as strong as having them powder coated. What would you do? I have seen and of many people that used the paint and it turned out good, but i never know how long it lasted.

wheel paint should be OK but then depends on road salt and getting them scraped up from sticks and what not, also make sure you clean them up good. and another trick paint you tires with BBQ grill paint flat black to make them look new again they wont be shiny but it makes them look nice

Here is a pic of the ones i would need. As you can see i dont have the type with the rolled tip, it just kinda comes to a flat plane on the edges. I got this one at a local junkyard but it is unusable. Not to mention its all dented up and ugly. He gave it to me for free cause he said it was unsellable anyway.

besides the junkyard, you might try the used tire shop.  They usually have a lot of that stuff.

I am positive I have a pair of those with that "flat lip" on the top that you are talking about.

Thanks vile. But as for using the ones with the flat lip... i think i have no choice but to use those. Due to the back being different. Here is a pic. The ones with the rolled lip, which i would rather use cause i think they look better, have a different clip on thingy. I think. At least that's what he showed me at the junkyard.

Anybody ever seen the backs of this kind? It seems like since it is a solid strip, that it is the only kind that will clamp on.
