Unusual OEM sway bar mounting?
« on: March 04, 2009, 09:30:54 am »
I found these pictures of the front suspension of a 1974 C10 LWB.  I noticed the factory sway bar front bushings were mounted on top (inside) the frame bracket as seen in the pictures below.  I'm thinking that this bar was added sometime after its original build -- weren't the frame-mounting brackets riveted to the frame from the factory when a truck was originally built with a sway bar?

I added an OEM sway bar to my '80 stepside last year and bolted the bushings below the bracket.  It does hang down more than I'd like which brings me to raise this question about this particular mounting technique.  Would mounting the sway bar front bushings like this cause any noticeable handling problems?

It is reversed, but it shouldn't cause any problems.  On lowered truck people generally mount the bushing directly to the frame.

What Pat posted is how it should be mounted.
