1981 GMC Stepside

Stumbled across this site and thought I'd share my last project. I'm on the hunt for an S10 now that will probably be built along the same lines as this one.

Just your basic repaint and tune up...




DJM Spindles and 2" springs up front

'90 bench seat



LT1 Electric fans

cleaned up w/ modded shroud

frees up lots of room


355 forged pistons, lt4 rods, scat crank, ported zz3 heads, Vic Jr intake, 750 dbl pumper, flowtech long tube headers, Comp XE274 cam, power steering, power brakes, AC and heater.

I was wondering the same thing? I went the other way from a s-10 to a 84 stepside.

Nice truck. I went from a 73' LWB to my 77' stepper to a 2000 Sonoma and back to the 77'. I'd like to have an S series again. With an LS motor of course  :P

Thanks guys.

I've always liked the lowered trucks and really want to do a pro-touring style s10 w/ truck arm suspension. See if I can use the lightweight to my advantage and make a corner carver that will run 10's.

The step side has been around for a while, took 2nd at Super Chevy Show Houston a few years ago and a few other awards at local shows. I came here hoping to find it again. I sold it a while back and its traded hands a few times. I was hoping if I posted it up someone would come forward saying they've seen it recently and hopefully put me in contact w/ the current owner.

I'd stick with the stepside, it's a keeper.  Get a 3rd gen F-body or C4 'Vette for a good handling build car.  Making a truck handle (though possible) seems like a lot of wasted effort that would be better spent on a sports car platform.  You know, it's kinda like making a Honda Civic fast (it can be done, but why not start with a car that is already fast and make it faster for more satisfaction and less total investment/hassle).

lol i had a 13 second civic Si...I've got a mustang gt right now(and i've had 2 3rd gen Fbodies and too many 4th gens to count) and a colorado w/ zq8 suspension. Just something about throwing a truck into a turn and having the confidence that its not going to come around on you that makes it really fun.

Why not throw some suspension mods at the stepside, then?  How about one of these front ends and a HTH truck arm suspension in the rear for improved handling, a US Body fiberglass front clip, and an all-aluminum LS motor to make it nice and light.....  LOL, I'm not trying to badger you.  I just really like the stance and look of your current truck.  I know it would be hard for me to part with it.

Is that a custom made air cleaner, using K&N top ?!

If not where can I get like that two snorkel piece ( reminds me of my 75 Buick Electra )

One more Q .. how does those Italian horns sound like? I hope they sound like the OERs .'Coz i got same horns but they're still in the box
